The Junkyard

I wrote this little story of the course of a month back in October of 1996.  This was about a year after my band broke up and I was throwing myself into writing, outside of my wife (who was my girlfriend at the time), work, and school.  I’d moved back in with my parents which in and of itself wasn’t really that bad, but it felt like I was taking a step backward instead of forward.  I was also still working my shitty accounts payable job which wasn’t really providing me with a lot of money.  I wasn’t entirely sure what I’d do for a living.  I didn’t really have serious aspirations to be a full-time writer but the thought of the possibility had crossed my mind.  I bought a book with some agent names in it and did some research but I never sent my stuff anywhere.

Now as I write this, in what seems like an eternity since those days, I’m a pretty successful computer programmer and not too worried about making a living from writing.  I can retire on programming so I’m really free to write solely for fun.  Sure, I’d love to make money off it but I don’t feel any pressure to.  If my writing’s good, it’s good.  If it’s not, it’s not.  Take it or leave it; easy come, easy go.

Anyway, on to the synopsis:

Brad Fraley has carried a terrible secret with him since his childhood.  Brad, along with four other childhood friends, witnessed something none of them could explain and no one should ever have to see.  Years later Brad revisits his old home town, sure that the evil he experienced there was long dead.  He soon discovers that some things just can’t stay dead.
